If you own a PS5 DualSense, there's a near certainty your thumbsticks will drift within 18 months of regular play. This isn't speculation — it's physics, and it's why Sony's repair centers see tens of thousands of controllers every month.
The Root Cause: Carbon Contact Sensors
Inside every stock PS5 DualSense joystick module is a potentiometer — a mechanical sensor made of a plastic wiper pressing against a carbon-coated resistor track. Every time you move the stick, that wiper scrapes the track. After roughly 300–500 hours of play, the carbon erodes enough that the sensor starts misreading your input. The controller thinks you're pushing the stick when you're not. That's drift.
Why Hall Effect Sensors Are Different
Hall Effect technology uses magnets instead of physical contact. A small magnet on the joystick shaft moves near a magnetic sensor — no touching, no friction, no wear. The sensor detects the magnetic field and converts it to position data. Because nothing physically contacts anything, there's nothing to wear out.
The GuliKit Hall Effect modules — both the NS51 and the 720 Adjustable Tension version — use TMR (Tunnel Magneto-Resistance) sensors, which are even more precise than standard Hall Effect. The result: dramatically reduced drift risk, consistently accurate readings, and a controller that feels like new after years of use.
What the Upgrade Actually Looks Like
At ExportAmericaLT, we replace your factory joystick modules with GuliKit Hall Effect modules before the controller ships to you. The process:
- Controller is disassembled, existing modules removed
- GuliKit TMR modules installed and aligned
- Full function test: all buttons, triggers, touchpad, gyro
- Controller reassembled and packaged for shipping
Every PS5 DualSense we ship has GuliKit Hall Effect modules installed. You get a controller that plays like new — and stays that way.
See PS5 Build Options →Send-In Service: Already Have a Controller?
If you already own a DualSense and want the Hall Effect upgrade without buying a new one, our send-in repair service lets you mail us your controller. We install the GuliKit modules and ship it back — typically within 3–7 business days.
